How to Train the Next Generation for Jesus (and why it’s important)

Throughout the Old Testament, God made it very clear: As parents, we are called to train the next generation to serve and love God. This was made evident in the fact that the Israelites were commanded to share the stories of all God had done for them in the past. They were told to re-read the Law so that the new generation would know exactly what was in it and why it was important to honor it. Parents were instructed to teach their children all they could about God and His love for them. The same is true today. It is up to us to make sure the next generation knows how much God loves them and desires to be in relationship with them.

They Will Know Us By Our Love: Living as the Family of God

Jesus said that the world would know us by our love for one another. (John 13:35) Is this true of the church today? Does the world look at the church and say, “Wow! They really love each other”? Because if not, we have some changes to make. Loving each other is not simply a nice idea or a suggestion. Jesus called it the greatest commandment along with loving God with all our hearts. It’s a big deal to love one another. After all, as sons and daughters of God, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and it is only natural for our Father to long for us to get along as family should.

4 Truths You Need to Embrace as the Bride of Christ

Throughout my decades in the church, I have heard this phrase countless times: We are the bride of Christ. But what does it really mean to be called the “bride of Christ”? Wedding feasts and marriage analogies are spoken of throughout the New Testament. But I’ll be honest in saying that I find it difficult sometimes to wrap my head around the idea. A closer look at Scripture, however, tells us that this analogy is not only beautiful, but it also describes some of our rights and responsibilities within the family of God.

Welcome to the Family of God: What It Means to Be His Child

If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have been born again into the family of God. So if no one has said it yet, welcome to the family! I have always found it interesting that God decided to use the term “family” to describe one aspect of who we are in Him. After all, He is God. He could have asked us to be servants or even slaves. But instead, He refers to us as His own children. I don’t know about you, but I am so forever grateful to be a child of the Creator of the universe!

In with the New: Learning How to Walk in Your New Identity

What do you imagine when you think of a young child learning to walk? What comes to mind? My daughters were absolutely adorable when they began to take their first steps. They waddled around so proud of their accomplishment to balance on two feet. Every now and then they would fall down, and sometimes they would even choose to crawl because it was easier and more comfortable for them. But eventually, the waddle went away; and in the blink of an eye, they were running all over the house! When you learn to walk in your new identity given to you by God, it’s a very similar process. You will have days when you are running, and days when you are crawling. You will fall down from time to time, and sometimes you will need to fall to your knees. And just as I was proud of my daughters as they were learning to walk, I truly believe that God sees our growth the same way. He is a proud Father who cheers us on and picks us up off the floor when we fall down.

Out with the Old: How to Leave Your Old Self Behind

The Bible teaches us that once you are saved, you are a new creation in Christ. Once lost, now you are found. Once a slave, now you are free. And once dead in your sin, now you are alive in Christ. We know that we are supposed to put our past selves behind us (Ephesians 4:22), but how is that possible in a world that is constantly tempting us and reminding us of who we used to be? How do you leave your old self behind?

The Truth About Who You Are In Christ Jesus

Those of us who have been saved all have one major thing in common… we are all fully aware of what we’ve been saved from… sin and death. We know that we were once lost. In fact, the Bible says we were actually dead in our sin. We recognized our need for a Savior, and we surrendered our lives to Him. And while most of us understand who we were before Christ, it’s a bit more challenging to embrace who we are now in Him.

The Truth About Who You Used to Be Before Jesus

Most of us would agree that we are not perfect. We know that even though we’ve been saved by Jesus, we are still a work in progress. We are still learning how to walk in who God created us to be. Why You Need to Find Yourself as a Child of God

Our culture speaks often of the need to find yourself. We are told that we have to find ourselves before we can truly love and serve others… that we have to find ourselves to have true success and happiness in life. What if I told you that there was some truth to this? In the world’s version of “finding yourself,” you are discovering who you are apart from any outside influences. But in God’s version, you are learning about who you are in Him. And until you find yourself in Him, you will never be able to reach your full God-given potential.
