Am I a Disappointment to God?

God is faithful. He never disappoints. He keeps His promises, even when we don’t keep ours. We can rely on Him in every circumstance. But people… we have the tendency to let each other down.

As a mom, I desire to never disappoint my girls. I never want their hopes to be shattered. I want to be faithful and to keep my word. Unfortunately, I will let them down. I will lose my temper. I will say one thing and do another. And I will disappoint them. It’s a fact of life.

So what happens when we disappoint God? Is He angry with us? Does He want to give up on us?

I love my daughters, but they are far from perfect. They act out. They disobey. And they say mean things. But because of my love for them, they could never disappoint me. When they make a mistake, we deal with it and move forward. Every day I see growth, and it’s exciting to be a part of it.

The truth is that my daughters can disappoint me, but they will never be a disappointment in my eyes. In the same way, I don’t believe that we can ever truly be a disappointment to God.

Disappointment is a label we place on ourselves, but God never sees us this way and neither should we.

I often feel like a giant disappointment. I feel like I let everyone down, including God. But this feeling is a lie from the enemy. He would love nothing more than for us to feel like failures – to live in a place where we can’t accomplish anything for God because we are walking around feeling like we can’t do anything right.

You will undoubtedly disappoint others, but that doesn’t make you a disappointment.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:37-39 (NLT)

When we disappoint, when we fail – we need to deal with the issue and move forward. God doesn’t want us to live in a place of failure and defeat. We learn from our mistakes and we grow. And just as I delight in seeing my daughters grow and mature, God delights in our growth as well.

Growing in Christ is a process. Just as I daily work with my children to help them grow, God works in us each day as we grow in Him.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

Thank you, Jesus, that I am victorious in You. Thank you for working in my life each day and for teaching me what it means to live for You.
