Now We Live with Great Expectation: Relying on a Hope That Will Never Disappoint

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines hope as “the feeling of wanting something to happen and thinking that it could happen : a feeling that something good will happen or be true.”

When it comes to our children, our health, and our safety, we hope for the best because we know that the best doesn’t always happen. We hope because we know that this life is uncertain and can change at a moment’s notice. We hope…

In this life, we place our hope in a lot of things. We hope our loved ones will always be there for us, and we hope our doctors keep us healthy. We hope our government makes good decisions and keeps us safe and that our financial advisers keep our resources in line. The problem with putting our hope in people is that people are flawed and will undoubtedly fail us at some point. And the problem with placing our hope in this world is that this world is broken and wasting away.

Hoping for the best in a broken world, will almost always lead to disappointment.

God’s Word defines hope much differently than our modern-day definition. It is defined as great expectation. We can expect great things from God because of who He is and what He has done for us. He has been and always will be faithful to keep His promises. He is without flaw and will never fail us.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.Romans 5:5 (NLT)

  • Hope in God leads to peace and rest:

No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.Acts 2:26 (NLT)

  • Hope in God encourages us as we wait patiently for God’s promises:

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.Romans 15:4 (NLT)

  • Hope in God builds our faith and strengthens our love for one another:

For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.Colossians 1:4-5 (NLT)

  • Hope in God is strong and trustworthy:

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.Hebrews 6:19 (NLT)

  • Hope in God lasts forever:

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

God is faithful and will never fail us. We can place our hope in him KNOWING that He will keep His promises. We have blessed assurance that salvation and eternal life belong to us as children of God through Christ Jesus.

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

We don’t have to hope for the best with no absolutes and no certainty. We can place our hope in Jesus Christ and be secure in that hope. We can rest in it and know beyond the shadow of a doubt that things will indeed work out for the best. (Romans 8:28)

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.Hebrews 10:23 (NLT)

Now we live with great expectation…

Hope in Jesus is just that – great expectation!
