Seasons come and go, and every season gives us something to enjoy and celebrate. In the summer we get late nights, fireworks, swimming, and play dates. The fall brings pumpkins, cooler weather, and homemade pie. Winter is when things get chilly. We celebrate Christmas, play in the snow, and drink hot cocoa. And finally there’s spring. We get to enjoy flowers, birds singing, and lots of rain. (I love the rain!)
My house is always decorated for the season. I literally change my décor every 3 months. Yes, that sounds a little crazy, but I love it. I especially enjoy putting out the fall decorations. The colors are so pretty and cozy! The only thing I don’t enjoy about the seasons is how fast they come and go. It’s really easy to just let them fly by.
The Bible tells us that there is a time for everything. Every aspect of this life has its season.
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. …A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. – Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 (NLT)
We all experience seasons of joy as well as sorrow, but I believe that God meant for us to enjoy every aspect of life. Even in the midst of our sorrow, He is there. It is often in these darker seasons that we learn and grow the most. We lean on Him for strength, and He promises that the darkness of night won’t last forever. Winter will one day turn to spring. He never meant for us to live in sorrow. The season will change, and He is the God who is able to turn our mourning into dancing.
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy. – Psalm 30:11 (NLT)
Every season is beautiful, and yet every season brings about its own set of challenges. Gorgeous flowers may grow in the spring time, but only if we’re willing to do the work of planting them and nurturing them as they grow. Rain may keep us indoors and ruin our spring picnics, but it’s the rain that causes new life and growth. (We often get to enjoy a stunning rainbow as well.)
As we go through life, it’s easy to focus on the work rather than enjoying the fruits of our labor. We often allow our busyness to keep us from enjoying the fun times. Enjoy life. Take time to smell the roses. It goes by much too fast to get caught up in busy work.
I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God. – Ecclesiastes 3:11-13 (NLT)
Whatever season of life you are in, remember that God is with you. The seasons may change, but He never will. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. If you are currently enjoying the warm weather that summer has to offer, make the decision to delight in it. Take the time to enjoy God’s goodness and the fruit of your labors. On the other hand, if you are currently living through a rain storm, know that God will give you the strength to endure. Always persevere and trust God. You will one day get your rainbow, and you will look back on all that God has done for you and rejoice.
God has great things in store for our lives, and every season has its purpose. When we are living through a season, good or bad, it can be difficult to see what God is trying to do. We can look around and see the current season we are in, but only He can see our lives, with all of its seasons, from beginning to end. He alone can see the whole picture, while we can only see bits and pieces. This is why we must trust in His goodness and faithfulness. In the end, He will work all things together for our good.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. – Romans 8:28 (NLT)
